The silent patient

This psychological thriller by Alex Michaelides is a gripping novel filled with suspense. It was a roller coaster ride with lots of twists and discoveries along the way.

As the title suggests this novel talks about a patient named Alicia who is convicted of killing her husband but never revealed the reason. She remains silent the entire time creating a mysterious aura.

We find the complexities of the human mind and the intricate feelings like trauma, guilt, helplessness, and fear that an individual faces. We also see how a doctor tries and uses different methods to bring a response out of a patient and how he travels through the mind of the patient to understand them.

The most interesting part was the symbology used in the novel. The paintings were the medium for the patient to communicate with the outside world. It was like a code language to be deciphered. The paintings also foreshadow the events that would happen in the upcoming chapters which was very fascinating. The novel jumps between the past and the present revealing a huge suspense at the very end.
