Is life really a dream?

A dream we often enjoy as it involves false reality. A dream seems to be more beautiful as we love to dive into them. The unconscious mind creates an image of our inner desire that we call a dream.

Edgar Allan Poe's "A Dream Within a Dream" poem talks about how he feels that life itself is a dream. He wishes that everything he experienced is a dream as he cannot catch hold of the loss that he suffered.

The poet explores the distinction between dream and reality suggesting that life itself is a dream. He ends the poem with a question which affirms that he too is looking for an answer.

The poem itself is melancholic as he laments the loss of his loved ones. He is unable to accept the reality of the loss and wishes that all that he experienced might be a dream. Poe repeats the idea of a dream within a dream showing how the cyclic nature of his thoughts revolve unable to conclude. The second stanza extends the metaphor of the dream and how he thinks that life is a dream and it is awakened by death.

The poem made me think what if all that we experience is a dream and one fine day we wake up to see a completely different universe? This thought is frightening as well as exciting. It might be wishful thinking but it is always fun when our minds come up with crazy ideas.
