Easter day

Today being Easter is a celebratory moment which is looked forward to every year. The day began with wishes and statues on our gadgets, then it church time.

Today was different as I was accompanied by my friend. She has never been to Herber chapel so was excited to be here. She was fascinated by the architecture and the atmosphere of the chapel.

The service timing was different than other Sundays, it was because of Easter special service. 

There were a lot more crowd than usual Sundays. Different people all in their most prettiest forms were gathered. 

The choir sang lot of songs, one of the song is from my favourite list. The song is about hope and perseverance, that despite of everything it is well. 

The service ended after a long time followed by breakfast, where everyone gathered and had food together. There were a lot of people gathered in groups getting along with everyone. It was also a moment of fellowship where everyone gathered after a long time. Easter eggs were also provided in different colours and patterns.

It was a festive mode with lot of happy faces around the premises, gathered together to share their happiness.

Howl's moving castle

A good animated work makes me think. It floats beyond the magical realm. Today I would like to talk about"Howl's Moving Castle" which covers a lot of themes covered in magical realism.

This story talks about Sophie who is cursed by magic and tries to find a cure with the help of  Howl. As the movie progresses we find Sophie finding her true self by breaking free from the societal norms. Initially, we find Sophie to be timid and dependent but as the movie progresses the transformation within her is transparent.

The movie further talks about the concept of beauty and appearance. Her insecurity due to appearance has been dealt with and when she learns to accept herself her inner beauty reflects externally.

The war portrays the destruction caused to the individual as well as the community. The whole transition of a beautiful place being burnt as in hell shows the pain and loss of life.

The most interesting part is the moving castle. It's a fantasy that keeps going, the idea of having a moving castle a reality itself is exciting. This movie is different from the regular fairy tale. Here, we find a lot of realities hidden in magic.

Solace in the dark

Calm and still night,

Just one star above so bright,

Movie time

A few days back while discussing movies I got a recommendation to watch a Malayalam movie. It's a courtroom drama which has a plot dealing with mystery. After delaying it for a long time I decided to watch the movie "Neru".

In my honest opinion, I liked the movie. It did not have any complicated plot line but still made me curious as to how that particular case would be solved. This case deals with the rape of a blind girl which was difficult to prove since she cannot appear as eye witness. There are a few elements in the movie that caught my attention.

Firstly, we find the cruelty of humans and the lack of guilt they hold. We need to begin with the defence lawyer. Initially, when I saw the character I thought his harshness or lack of empathy was due to his profession. But towards the end, the character knowing that he is defending a criminal still tries to hurt the victim through words outside the courtroom. The lack of humanity and empathy was missing. 

Secondly, the influence of the criminal to easily escape the punishment. The manipulation and turning of the tables; that is the victim becoming the culprit and the culprit becoming the victim was disturbing. 

Thirdly, the plot was developed based on the girl being blind. When in the beginning itself the culprit was found I found it very confusing as to how plot will move but the story went on smoothly without any bumps. 

The movie was a smooth flow, the characters were portrayed well and the plot structure was good. The movie was not very intense but it's a good courtroom drama to be enjoyed.

The colours of passion

Colours represent different meanings, even a flower of the same variety would have a different meaning just due to a change in the colour. This novel by Sourabh Mukherjee is set up in Kolkata and solves a murder mystery case. 

The 'colour' in the title represents the different shades of people that we meet in the novel. As we come across different characters we find the complexities of their mind. The colour being the symbolic representation of danger and passion provides a foreshadowing of the upcoming plot. 

This novel provides various dimensions to the plot providing unexpected turns to the story leading the readers to cultivate various theories of the possible scenarios before the completion of the story.

The complexities of the entertainment industry are also portrayed through a character who once was a star but now is overtaken by other younger actors. The depleting fame due to the age becomes a setback leading to the struggles faced by them to stay in the field.

The struggle and pain the characters undergo are also portrayed. There is one line from the novel that touched me. It says " Sometimes the deepest wounds need the simplest of words to heal." The realisation of the power of words even though it may sound simple but for the wounded, it is a medicine for cure.
